Chabad of Downtown invites you to an inspiring evening celebrating the

"Rosh Hashana of Chassidism"

The 19th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of Chabad Chassidism, was released from his imprisonment in the Peter-Paul fortress in Petersburg, where he was held for 52 days on charges that his teachings threatened the imperial authority of the Czar. This day marks the "birth" of Chassidism: the day it was allowed to emerge from the womb of "mysticism" into the light of day, to grow and develop as an integral part of Torah and Jewish life.
